The first return Hajj flight of 2025 touched down at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka early Tuesday morning, bringing back hundreds of Bangladeshi pilgrims after the successful completion of their spiritual journey to Mecca. This significant event marks the beginning of the return phase for more than 80,000 pilgrims from Bangladesh who performed Hajj this year under government and private management.
The flight, operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, arrived around 6:00 AM with 419 pilgrims on board. Family members, officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and Hajj agencies gathered at the airport to receive the pilgrims with heartfelt embraces, prayers, and gratitude. The emotional scenes of reunion highlighted the spiritual and communal importance of the pilgrimage in the lives of Bangladeshi Muslims.
This year’s Hajj operations were praised for better coordination and improved facilities, both in Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh. The Ministry of Religious Affairs confirmed that the return flights will continue till early July 2025, with multiple flights scheduled daily from Jeddah and Medina.
According to Biman officials, a total of 176 return flights have been planned to repatriate pilgrims safely and efficiently. Both Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Saudia Airlines are jointly operating the return flights under a prearranged schedule.
Health officials have also set up medical teams at the airport to conduct basic health screenings upon arrival. Pilgrims showing signs of fatigue or heat-related stress are being provided immediate care. Special arrangements have been made for elderly and differently-abled pilgrims to ensure their comfort during disembarkation and onward travel.
Many returning pilgrims expressed gratitude for the opportunity to perform Hajj and were satisfied with the services received. “It was a life-changing experience,” said Mohammad Harun from Chittagong. “The hospitality in Mecca and Medina, and the support from Bangladeshi authorities, made our journey smooth and fulfilling.”
Returnees will be arriving in Dhaka over the next three weeks, while regional arrangements are also in place for pilgrims returning to other parts of the country, including Sylhet and Chattogram. Local news channels and social media are buzzing with updates as families prepare to welcome their loved ones back home.
The landing of the first return Hajj flight in Dhaka is a moment of spiritual fulfillment and national celebration. With smooth operations and heartfelt reunions, the 2025 Hajj return phase is off to a promising start. As more pilgrims make their way back home in the coming days, the focus remains on safety, dignity, and gratitude.
