Bangladesh celebrated a historic moment in its cultural calendar as Prime Minister Tarique Rahman distributed the Ekushey Padak 2026 among nine individuals and one music band at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on February 26, coinciding with Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day. The announcement, representing the nation's second-highest civilian honor, marked an unprecedented achievement for Bangladesh's rock music community: Warfaze became the first band to receive the prestigious award, validating four decades of musical excellence and cultural contribution.

Her collaborations with legendary filmmakers cemented her status as one of Bangladesh's most accomplished actresses.

The music category witnessed particularly poignant recognition. Ayub Bachchu, founder and frontman of LRB, was posthumously honored, represented by his wife Ferdous Akhtar Chondona. The Warfaze Ekushey Padak recognition represents far more than acknowledgment of musical talent—it validates a cultural revolution. Formed on June 5, 1984, Warfaze has completed four decades of its musical journey, with founding member Monirul Alam Tipu remaining associated with the band since inception, guiding it through multiple phases and line-up changes.
Warfaze is credited with introducing hard rock and heavy metal to Bangladesh, shaping the country's rock scene over four decades with iconic tracks such as "Boshe Achi Eka", "Obak Bhalobasha", "Jibondhara", and "Oshamajik". Their landmark albums include "Warfaze" (1991), "Obak Bhalobasha" (1994), and "Shotto" (2012), establishing a comprehensive musical legacy.
The Warfaze rock band Bangladesh faced significant cultural resistance in their early years. Heavy metal music was often stigmatized, yet the band persevered, transforming from a cover band playing international metal tracks into creators of Bengali-language progressive rock that resonated with multiple generations.
Just four minutes before getting on stage at Mirpur Stadium for the Odommo Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026 opening ceremony, band members learned that Warfaze had been awarded the Ekushey Padak. The timing left members emotionally overwhelmed as they processed this historic recognition before performing.
